Days 139 - 140 - May 19 and May 20

Wednesday

Today was such a good day. The sun was shining, and it was warm! In the 60s! I wore my flip-flops!

Tamar returned from England, and we went on a picnic in the park behind our dorm. The area’s actually quite pretty when it’s sunny and warm and has flowers. It was quite a nice picnic, and afterwards we played on the various playground pieces that are scattered around the park. Summer is amazing.

I, with the help of Julia (and her superb cutting abilities/ability to not get bored with all the menial tasks I assigned her), cooked fajitas for the usual group – the Polish guys, Marcin’s friend Marta, Angela, and the addition of Dori who was home. It was the Danish version of the American version of Mexican food – awesome. Actually, I’ve been very impressed with the quality of Danish-Mexican food, and they also sell amazing tortilla chips here. (And it was good enough that Marcin added another reason why he should go to Harvard for his PhD…as if I wasn’t a good enough reason? ;-) ) I think my trip would have been much more unpleasant had I not had any access to Mexican food.

Thursday

Today it is truly my summer. I had my last class in the Danish Culture Course, and it was rather more interesting than usual. Not to say that the course isn’t interesting – it is, but with many classes, sometimes the lecturers aren’t the best. He talked a little about more pop-culture things, and then we were given a history of what others thought of the Danish identity over time.

Once again, the weather was beautiful – actually, in my case bordering on hot. The same girls who had been complaining all winter about how cold it was were today complaining about the humidity. Ah, weather, you can never satisfy…Actually, we sat outside basking in the sun for twenty minutes, which was wonderful, until I looked down and discovered I was already starting to turn pink. Oh dear, time to buy sunscreen.

Elyse and Becca kept me company for a while, until we went our separate ways for our separate travels. I am currently on the train to Hamburg. The Danish countryside is amazing. We passed several acres of these yellow flowers, with windmills in the background. So lovely.

Two hours and I shall be with another lovely BU-er – my roommate Megan!
There was some sort of delay on the track, and so we missed the first ferry, which made me an hour late. I had not even realized it took a ferry, but I suppose it’s faster. That was really cool, though it was too cold to stay outside, there was a gorgeous sunset.

The last three hours of the ride were no fun when I suddenly realized I was the stupidest person in the world – I had left my passport in my room. By the time I realized, it was far too late to do anything about it, so every time a person walked through the door I expected it to be a customs person ready to send me the entire four hour journey back. (I’m writing this on the train back from Hamburg, and right as I finished that sentence, the ticket man came by and I nearly jumped out of my seat. What timing…). Luckily for me, they don’t check customs between Denmark and Germany. At least in that direction…I’m praying it’s consistent and the Danish, in their xenophobia, don’t decide to check going the other way. I cannot believe I forgot it – the most important thing you need in traveling…

However, I made it okay, and met Megan in Hamburg!

Goodbye, Denmark!

Hello, Germany!
